Join the Global Effort: Complete the World Alzheimer Report 2024 Survey

Updated: Jun 6

Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) has launched the 2024 Attitudes Towards Dementia global survey. This initiative invites individuals worldwide to contribute to understanding and addressing the stigma and attitudes towards dementia. The goal is to create the largest international dataset on these topics.

Why Participate?

Participating in this survey helps capture a global perspective on dementia, highlighting diverse beliefs and experiences. Every voice is crucial in forming a clearer understanding of how different cultures perceive and deal with dementia.

Understanding Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder and the leading cause of dementia. It primarily affects older adults but can occur in younger individuals as well. Symptoms typically start with mild memory loss and confusion but progress to severe cognitive and physical impairments. Here are key aspects:

- Brain Changes: Alzheimer’s involves the build-up of amyloid plaques and tau tangles in the brain, which damage and kill brain cells.

- Symptoms: Early symptoms include difficulty remembering recent events and conversations. As it progresses, individuals may experience severe memory loss, disorientation, mood swings, and difficulty performing familiar tasks.

- Risk Factors: Age is the most significant risk factor, but genetics, lifestyle, and environmental factors also play a role.

- Impact: Alzheimer’s not only affects the individuals diagnosed but also has a profound impact on their families and caregivers, both emotionally and financially.

Importance of the Survey

This survey aims to:

- Gather Global Insights: By collecting data from various countries and cultures, the survey seeks to understand global perspectives on dementia.

- Identify Stigmas: The survey will highlight common misconceptions and stigmas that exist about dementia, providing a basis for educational campaigns.

- Guide Policies and Programs: Results will inform policymakers and healthcare providers, helping them develop better support systems, care practices, and educational programs tailored to different cultural contexts.

Who Can Participate?

The survey is open to everyone. You are encouraged to share it widely with friends, family, colleagues, and within your community. The broader the participation, the more comprehensive and valuable the data will be.

Available Languages

The survey is available in multiple languages to ensure wide accessibility:

- **Languages Available:** English, Arabic, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Dutch, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.

- **More Translations Coming:** ADI plans to add more languages. Participants can select their preferred language from the dropdown menu on the survey page.

Deadline

The survey closes on June 14, 2024. It’s essential to participate before this date to ensure your insights are included in the report.
